Guest Speaker: Liam McGranaghan

High School Teacher, Raptor Bander, Falconer, and Author of "The Red-Tailed Hawk"


Liam McGranaghan is a passionate educator, naturalist, dedicated raptor bander, skilled falconer, and author, whose life's work revolves around environmental education and conservation. Through his extensive experience as a high school environmental teacher and college professor, his contributions to raptor research, and his captivating falconry book "The Red-Tailed Hawk," Liam has made a significant impact on the fields of education and wildlife conservation. After completing his education, Liam embarked on a career as a high school environmental teacher. His commitment to fostering a love for nature and environmental consciousness in his students was evident in his engaging teaching methods and hands-on approach to learning. Liam's classes became known for their interactive outdoor activities, which allowed students to connect with nature firsthand. In 2015, Liam received the Presidential Award for Environmental Education (PIAEE), a prestigious accolade presented by the U.S. President to outstanding environmental educators. The PIAEE recognized Liam's exceptional contributions to environmental education and his significant impact on students and the community. Now retired, Liam continues to pursue falconry, birding and nature photography.
